Aylah’s Mario Party

  1. Sridevi Divakaruni says:

    Execellent idea and well executed.
I will definitely take inspiration from your theme and plan my son ‘s next birthday

  2. Charity says:

This party is incredible! How did you attach the brick boxes to your wall for the photo wall? I would also like to k ow if the bricks were print outs, or did you just draw them in construction paper? Thanks so much for posting!

    • Hello Charity,

The blocks for the photo wall, as well as the ones in my living room, are actually hanging from the ceiling instead of being attached to the wall. I wanted to give them a more dimensional look. I put a long dowel through all of the boxes to hold them firmly together before hanging them with fishing line and command hooks. The brick ones were just done with solid brown construction paper and then I drew the lines on with Sharpie. Just make sure to draw them exactly like that, if you google Mario brick you will see that the pattern is ALWAYS the same, it’s not just a random brick pattern. Die hard gamers would notice the discrepancy right away. 🙂

  3. Star Herrera says:

This beautiful!! I wish I had the patience for this much detail. For the matching game how did you get it to stick on both sides when flip it back and forth?

  4. Samara says:

Do you sell the game pieces? I love all of the games and your clipart is amazing. I would love to buy them for my kid party this April! You had some awesome ideas, I can’t wait to make these beautiful decorations too!

  5. lisa Keaveney says:

I love your ideas!! Where did you find the red blowers? I can’t find just red anywhere!!
    Thanks

    • Hey Lisa,

I got them at Party City, but they weren’t plain. I believe they were Cars 3 blowers. The base was the plain red that I needed and then the cardboard cutout thing they put on top just slid off. Usually they do so all you have to do is find red ones and then throw out whatever “branded” character they’ve put on it. 😉

      xoxo,
      Melissa

  6. Michelle says:

    Hi,

Did you use cardboard boxes then added cardstock on all sides for both the Photo area bricks and the smaller ones near the kitchen area?

  7. Dawn says:

Love, love, love this party! What size boxes did you use?

  8. Dawn says:

This is an awesome party! What size boxes and coin plates did you use?

  9. Alanna says:

The etsy link doesn’t seem to work. Or the page no longer exists? Am I doing something wrong?

  10. Ginger says:

    Hello!

Im just in love with all of your party details!! Are you selling any items? Im driving through Hamilton this week! Shoot me an email if anything is still available!

  11. Nancy says:

Love your work!! Did you make your own food tags?

  12. Nancy says:

Are you selling a digital copy of your food tags?

  13. Caroline Williams says:

Okay this may be a stupid question…but how did you stack those cups for the one game? The one where hey had to knock them over.. because normally when you stack cups they’re a lot closer together… does that make sense?? Haha, sorry ‍♀️

  14. Chantal says:

I love your memory game. Do U have the digital copies so I am replicate this game ? Very interested.

    • Hey Chantal,

I do, but I’m uncomfortable selling them as I purchased the digital art from at Etsy vendor. However if you want to buy them from her and then send proof of payment to me I’d be happy to sell you the files that I created with them.
Here is the link … https://www.etsy.com/transaction/1317312031

      xoxo,
      Melissa

      • Noemi Perego says:

        Hello!
Incredible party! The link to the etsy vendor is not working. I would like to purchase the files from her, than share the payment proof and have the file with the games, as you suggested in the message, if it is ok with you. Could you please send the etsy link again? Thanks!

  15. Caroline says:

Gotcha!!! So smart. Thank you! You did an amazing job with the whole party! I’m so jealous!

  16. Kristen H says:

This is an adorable party! Where did you find the face print outs for the Mario Thwomps you have hanging in the hallway? I have tried drawing them, but I am no artist!

  17. Susan says:

This party is beyond amazing! Did you make the wrappers for the water bottles? The little outfit ones? I’d love to buy if selling! Thanks!

  18. Tina says:

    Hi Melissa,

Awesome decorations!! What size balloons did you use for your ghosts and chain chomps? Also, what did you use to hold the leaves for your vines?

    • Hello Tina,

The ghosts and chain chomps are not balloons, they are lanterns. The standard size you would buy from party stores. The balloon vines are held together with fishing line.

      xoxo,
      Melissa

  19. Tina says:

Got it! I’m trying to plan a birthday party for my son and your site is an inspiration! For the goombas, what did you use for the white body?

  20. Gary says:

    Melissa,

    This is just amazing!

Love the goombas! Just bought the heart shaped balloons. What should I use for the white body and brown feet?

    Thanks for the help!

  21. Gary says:

Thanks for the quick reply! Maybe it’s not white, is that beige? I’m referring to the beige body between the brown balloons and dark brown craft foam feet.

  22. Mayela says:

Hi, your party was amazing!!, and Iove your memory game and the bingo play, I really want to buy them…. is that possible?? Thank you!!

  23. Jackie says:

Great party! I really loved your balloon vines! How did you create the balloon vines and the balloon cloud arch? I would love to replicate for my son’s birthday.

  24. Diana says:

What are the rules the kids used to play the match game… thanks

    • Just like the classic memory game. They took turns picking two cards and flipping them over. If they got a match they got got a point and if not the cards got flipped back.

  25. Kris says:

This party is amazing! Thank you for all the inspiration
Was there something you printed out for the goomba, ghost and chain chomps faces?

    • Hey Kris,

I found the images of the faces just doing a Google search. Then I sizes them and printed them myself. I printed the goomba ones on sheets of sticker paper so I could just peel the back off and stick them right into the balloons. The ghost faces were the trickiest because after I cut them out I had to cut some slits in the edges and shape them so that they would sit nicely on the round lanterns. I would suggest using hot glue on the lanterns because nothing else I tried seemed to hold. Hope that helps …

  26. Katrina says:

Do you have a pattern for the foam hats that I could buy?

  27. kris frazier says:

    Another question..or two!!!
How did you hang the gold plates?
And what did you attach the green balloons to for the vine?

  28. Chantal says:

Melissa the link you sent me for the art work for the memory game didn’t work. Telling me error. Can u please email me. I just got noticed u replied to my message as I was looking for something for my daughters bday next Saturday

  29. Jessica says:

Wow! Incredible Job! I’m working on making the visors for my sons birthday, and was wondering if you made the strap adjustable, or if it was a standard size. Thank you!

    • Hey Jessica,

I just made it to fit my daughter’s head and then made them all the same size size. The kids at the party were ranging from 2-8 years old and they all seemed to fit fine. 🙂
I made one for myself too, but it was a bit bigger. 😉

      xoxo,
      Melissa

  30. Brittany Fife says:

Are the craft foam feet you had on various characters a pre-cut shape, or did you cut them yourself?

  31. Michelle says:

how did you add the happy birthday in the boxes

  32. Sharon says:

    Hello Melissa,
    What a fabulous party!
I was wondering if you could tell me where you got your crochet pattern for Yoshi please?
    They are super cute!
    Thank you
    Sharon

    • Hey Sharon,

I bought the pattern off of Etsy but when I went to get the link for you I discovered that the seller took the listing down so it’s not available for purchase anymore.
Sorry I couldn’t be of more help …

      Melissa

  33. Brittany says:

What did you use to cover the styrofoam balls on the piranha plants? It looks so smooth!

  34. Brittany says:

One more question, did you draw your own pattern to cut out the thwomps or do you have a template? I’ve been searching google for the images, but didn’t know if there was an easy way to size it for a large poster board.

    Thanks!

  35. Sylvia says:

Beautiful party! What did you use for the balloon vines?

  36. sylvia prats says:

Beautiful party! What did you use for the balloon vines?

  37. Sandra says:

Where did you find the designs for the red cup game?

  38. Carla says:

    Hello
Where can I find the link to see what is available for purchase? All the way from South Africa.

  39. Yinet Bertran says:

    Hello
    Fabulous party!
How did you hang the boxes on wall?
    Thank you.

  40. Adele says:

Where did you get the yoshi face for the tongue game? Its so darling!

    Thanks!
    Adele

  41. Stephanie says:

Hello!! Absolutely love the work you put into your party. Gave me so many ideas for mine!!
My son is asking for the chocolate pudding with the Goomba faces were they purchased this way or was the face a sticker template?
Thank you so much for sharing!
    Steph

  42. Redmitz says:

    Hello!
This is an amazing party, I love all of the little details. I have a question for you about the balloon arch. I know above comments you mentioned that the balloons were tied using fishing wire. Is the fishing wire literally all the is holding them together? Or is there a support somewhere inside the balloon cluster that the fishing wire is affixed to? Also, I was wondering roughly how many white balloons I should aim to buy to try to recreate something like this? And last question (I promise) for the green stems of the vines going up to meet the balloons, is this just a green cord you purchased at the craft store (somewhere like Michaels)? Thank you in advance!

    • Hey!
So first the easy answer … The green “rope” used for the vines is just a piece of green thick yarn. Super cheap and easy, hehe.
Now the balloon clouds. In short, yes it is just fishing line and balloons, but here is the long answer of how it was done …
After I inflated all of the balloons I took a long length of fishing line and put one end through a needle. Then you string the needle through the tied part of the balloon … Keep repeating and pushing them really close together. It helps to do slightly varying sizes of balloons when you inflate because you can use smaller ones to better fill in gaps so that the whole thing ends up looking fuller when you’re done. To hang it I used command hooks (the ones you can remove without damaging your wall). There was 3 hooks in total, one at each end and one in the middle. So for the middle hook you won’t be able to just put the fishing line directly on it because all of the balloons will be in the way … So what I did was just get a smaller loop of fishing line to act as an extender do that the original wire could reach the hook on the ceiling (it will just disappear into the balloons and you won’t even see it).
Hmm, total number of balloons … My guess is close to 50 maybe? I did multiple clouds in different areas of my house and some were bigger than others so I can only guess.
      Hope that helps you out!
      Best wishes for your event!
      xoxo,
      Melissa

  43. Crystal says:

This party is absolutely amazing! Where did you get all the paper for the backdrop? Sky, floor, hills etc.? Thanks!

    • Hey Crystal! Great question. I’m a professional photographer so that paper is actually seamless backdrop paper. I have tons of colours in my studio so I just snatched it from there. It wouldn’t be cost effective otherwise as it’s sold in huge rolls. Not the answer you were hoping for I’m sure.

  44. Anna says:

This would be my sons drem party!!! You are amazing! I clicked the link for the thwomps and was just looking for clarification. Did you use the stickers for the face and if so what size did you buy? Tha ks

  45. Dayna says:

Do you still have any of the items left for local pick up? I’m throwing a Mario kart party for my son on thanksgiving weekend. Thanks

  46. Charlotte says:

Wow! Love all your hard work! Amazing!

  47. Kim says:

Hi. How did you get the cups to stack on top of each other for the caterpillar game? I want to make that game for my sons birthday party and don’t see how you stacked them. Thanks.

  48. KaRina says:

Good morning! This was amazing work! I just recently got into “crafting” and I’m wanting to do some DIY decor for my son 8th bday party! So far, your post has been the MOST helpful & creative! This will be the first themed party I’ve done. However, I’m in Arkansas but I’d love to know if you have any digital items available to give/sell via email?! I had lots of other questions but some were answered as I read the previous comments/questions Please & Thanks!!

  49. Ana Collins says:

You are seriously so talented!! I am having a Mario Bros party for my son this weeked and made the brick boxes to put on the wall. I tried making them stick with removable strips but they wont stay. I read your comment above about how you hung them. My question is where did you stick the fishing wire to the boxes? I see that they are hanging from command hooks but how do you make the fishing wire stick to the boxes?

    • Hey Ana!

The fishing line is actually threaded through the boxes (as if they were beads). I poked small holes in the sides … And then I cut large flaps out of the backs (where they would be against the wall and hidden) to stick my whole hand in so I could easily thread the line through the holes. Put the holes at least an inch from the top of the box so that when the wires pulls up it doesn’t just rip through the top of the box.
Hope that all makes sense …

  50. Lesia says:

Hi Melissa, your party looks incredible! Would you mind if I email you for the digital files you have available to sell? Thanks!!

  51. Abby Encisa says:

Omg! So amazing! Can you send me the digital files? I dont mind paying.

  52. yesi G says:

Amazing! dod you sell the template you used for the Happy Birthday blocks?

  53. Kenessi says:

I am in LOVE with your attention to detail and commitment to the super mario theme. your daughters party came out so freaking nice. I’m planning my sons mario themed 5th birthday for next weekend. I’ve read through all your comments to make sure you haven’t answered this question yet. How did you make Urchin, the purple with yellow spiked fish? Also, how did you make the big green pipes on the floor? Thank you!

    • Hey!
For urchin I used a purple paper lantern and then made small cones out of yellow cardstock and hot glued them on.
The pipes are plastic paint pails spray painted green.
      xoxo, Melissa

  54. sara says:

How did you make the balloon vines? are the balloons filled with helium or just air?

  55. Nausheen says:

What size paint pails did you use for the pipes? Also LOVE your party!

  56. Sam says:

    Hi Melissa!

I am in love with this entire party. Sorry if these sound like dumb questions.
I was just wondering what the rules were for the cup game? Did everyone get so many blows and whoever blew the last cup won?
What about for the boxes? If you revealed a star, did you win a prize? Thank you so much for any help you can offer!

    • Hello Sam!
Everyone stood in line and had one blow and then went to the back of the line again. The person to knock the last cup off the table was the winner. I also did 2nd and 3rd place prizes for the second and third to last cups.
I’m not sure what you mean about the boxes. I’m sorry but I don’t understand your question. Are you talking about the memory game? If so, it was creating matches like the mini games on the console version. 🙂

  57. Smoki says:

This is the most amazing party I’ve ever seen!! I’m trying to make the thwomps! I hand painted the faces but I’m horrible at this cutting! Do you happen to remember what the measurements were for the edges that you cut out of the foam board? To make them look like the blocks- those triangles? Thank you SO much! My sons birthday party is in 2 days!

    • Hello! I’m sorry, I do not remember the exact measurements that I used. I would recommend though cutting the foam board with a box cutter and a ruler as opposed to scissors. The edge will come out much cleaner. 🙂

  58. Baeza says:

Bonjour et bravo pour votre travail c’est Super !!!!
Pour le jeu où les enfants doivent recoller les moustaches de Mario, avec quoi les moustaches sont elles fixées svp ?

  59. Nica C. says:

Hi. Planning my sons bday next month. Did you use a template for the yellow question mark box?

  60. Kelly says:

How did you make the amazing Jellyfish?

  61. Jackie says:

I just wanted to say this was beautifully done! Thank you for the ideas and inspiration.

  62. Brenda Lippe says:

You did a fantastic looking MARIO party. Would you please tell me how to make the chocolate stuff in the plastic wine cups? Is that just pudding?

  63. Margaret says:

I love the Mario Mustache game! i’m going to try to re make it myself, what did you use for the back of the mustaches?

    Thank you!

  64. S23 says:

    Hi Melissa,

As everyone else, loving all your ideas!!! Our Mario party is this Sunday and I’ve already done my golden coins and have my party games ready! Not sure who’s more excited – me or my son!

Can I please ask you though – what did you use for the sea urchin spikes – cardboard cones or water cooler cups painted in yellow?

    Thanks,
    S23

  65. S23 says:

    Cool! Thanks Melissa!

    Best,
    Sasha

  66. MEC says:

Hello- could you please share what material you used for the clouds? They seem pretty stiff! Kudos if they were made out of foam core- that stuff is hard to cut into shapes (for me at least)

  67. melissa cook says:

Can you talk to me about the green buckets/pipes? How did you make those?

    • Just took the metal handles off, spray painted them green and used green construction paper to made a thick rim like the Mario pipes have. Then I cut a black circle from bristol board to lay in the opening so you couldn’t see the inside of the bucket. 🙂

  68. Sam says:

Anyway you could share the etsy seller you bought the graphics from? The link you shared doesn’t work. 🙁

  69. Alisha says:

This is hands down the best Mario party I’ve seen. Wonderful. Your attention to detail is amazing.
For the wall boxes, how did you attach the dowel inside? What size did you use? I saw the comment about the dowel then saw below where you said how you strung the fishing line through and the line hung from the ceiling. Also curious if the fishing line was attached to the dowels? Thanks! I appreciate the additional info. you’ve added about the party.

  70. Alisha says:

    • Hey Alisha!
Thank you for your sweet words. 🙂
The dowel runs through holes that were made in the sides of the boxes. The dowel was just a bit shorter than the full length of the row of boxes and then the fishing line was looped around the dowel on either side. There were also holes punched in the top of the boxes on the ends so the fishing line could come through the top. 🙂 Hope that helps!
      xoxo,
      Melissa

  71. Alisha says:

Hello again. Also curious what did you use for the red part of the Chomp’s mouth? Tissue paper? And the flame of the bombs was that tissue paper! Thank you!

    • Yes, the chomp’s mouth is tissue paper (it was easier to mold into the weird spherical shape because it was thinner). And the sparks on the bombs were sparkly pipe cleaners. 🙂

  72. Alisha says:

Yay! I just saw you replied!! Thanks for the clarifications. How thick of a dowel did you use for the happy birthday boxes? Was it about the size used for the piranha plants?

  73. Alisha says:

Hmmm are the happy birthday boxes 6” or 12”?
I assumed 6” but then it seemed small when measuring out. Thanks! I think I’m done with questions after this one. 🙂

  74. Alma says:

How did you do the face on the pudding cups?

  75. Cindy says:

Hi, I was just wondering how did u do the faces for the Goomba on the chocolate pudding?

  76. Cindy says:

    Hi,

I was just wondering how you did the goomba faces on the chocolate pudding?

    Thanks

  77. Alisha says:

    Hi,
Do you remember what weight you used for your command hooks for wall boxes? Did you put you hooks up a day ahead of time to allow them to ‘set.’ Were you concerned anything would crash down?
    Thanks!

  78. Lynnea says:

Hi! I apologize if this question was already asked. I tried to skim through but soo many comments LOL.

1st.. GREAT PARTY!! I”m taking LOTS of ideas!! My question is… where did you get the “faces” for the Thwomps? (eyes and mouth) Thanks!!

  79. Sue says:

Hi melissa. Ur party is awesome.im having a Mario party coming up for my son too but not as fabulous as yours. I’m planning to do the gumba pudding you made. Are you selling the pattern or got it somewhere? Thanks so much.

    Sue

  80. Jenn says:

Super cute and amazing job!! Where did you get the yoshis hot the yoshi tongue blowers?

  81. […] Goomba balloons via Moments by Melissa Miller […]

  82. Jaime says:

Love this party! Do you remember what inch foam balls you used for the piranha plant?

  83. Melissa says:

Love all this!!! I saw on previous comments how you hung the “bricks” boxes. But Are the boxes for the happy birthday hanging with fishing line too? I’m trying to recreate it and did the long dowel through them and put fishing line but now I kind of see they’re not hanging. I’d love to know how you did those. Also, about the clouds in that same set up, how did you stick the fishing line to the roof? And last thing, what did you use for the mouth on the purple fish?

    • Hi Melissa,

The boxes that are attached directly to the wall are attached with command hooks.
The clouds are hung with fishing line from the ceiling, hung from command hooks.
The mouth of the puffer fish is a wooden ring with pink yarn wrapped around it.

      xoxo,
      Melissa

  84. Dee mee says:

    Amazing, everything is amazing
Could you tell me where to download or find the PDF file for the hats? Please

  85. Blaire says:

    Hi Melissa,
This is a great party! I’m throwing one for my son in January and we are going to play a “stomp the goomba” game. Could you tell me how you did the goomba faces on the brown balloons? Thanks so much!

  86. Rosie says:

Hi! Did you draw the chain chomp mouth by hand? I’m having quite the time trying to find a traceable image on Google. Thanks!

  87. Ashely says:

Hi Melissa! I’m working on my sons birthday party and am struggling to find the boo (ghost) and chain chomp’s faces… can you tell me what you googled to find them? The help would be appreciated!!! <3

  88. Bucky says:

I came across this looking at nintendo stuff…
How awesome for these kids, they will remember this for the rest of their lives. It’s so great that you put so much thought and care to do this for them!

  89. Georgette says:

Hi Melissa! Hope you’re healthy and safe during this time. I’m just in the middle of putting together my boys mario party! Absolutely love all the hard work you put into this. I was just wondering are you selling any of the digital files. Also do you by chance have anything left? I’m also in Hamilton, Ontario. Thanks so much!

    • Hi Georgette!
No, I’m sorry I do not have anything left to see, and unfortunately I’m no longer selling the digital package either.
Best of luck with your party! 🙂
      xoxo,
      Melissa

  90. Nichole says:

What did you use to hold the green balloons to the stem?

    • Hey Nichole,

The balloons aren’t actually attached to trunk at all. The trunk is just propped up in the corner of the room and the balloons are hung from the ceiling with fishing line. I just made sure they came down low enough to look like they were actually attached. 😉

      xoxo,
      Melissa

  91. Megan says:

Hey! Wicked party, I scrolled through to try not to ask the same questions as everyone but I can’t find how you made your little squid? Any advice?

    • Hey Megan,

I made the squid with craft felt. I cut two layers the same, then stitched around the edges and stuffed cotton pillow stuffing in it. The black is just another piece of felt glued on. 😉

      Good luck with your party!

      xoxo,
      Melissa

  92. Jess says:

Hi Melissa you did amazing !! Love everything about it. I saw that you have templates for sale but the Facebook link doesn’t work. Is there anyway i can contact you through email? Thanks

  93. Katie says:

Wow! First of all, your party has the most amazing decorations! Super impressive! I truly am not trying to be a pest, but are you aware that your child’s name and home address are clearly listed on the internet for all to see? I just know it could be a real safety concern at some point. Again, I am not trying to be a troll in any way! Just thinking about your family’s privacy. Feel free to delete my comment…I would have messaged privately if I could have figured out how to do so. Thanks, and again, your party decor was amazing! Thanks for the ideas!

    • Hello Katie,

Thank you for your concern. The blog you found this post on is for my (home based) business. Our address is completely public because it’s where I operate my studio so there’s no getting around that. Unfortunately privacy is not a luxury that we have in that regard. And as for her name, I don’t feel that people knowing her name is going to put her in any danger.

  94. Jess says:

Thanks for getting back to me! I’m sorry if I’m asking a repeated question but how did you create the background? It looks like construction paper but can’t really tell. any tips would be great Your party is such an inspiration!! Thanks for sharing all your amazing ideas.

  95. Nicole says:

First, I have to say you did such an amazing job! I am planning my son’s 5th birthday party…super excited now after coming across your pins! I had a questions , what size lanterns did you use? Also, thank you for taking the time to answer questions. I have been reading through and the information has been very helpful for what I need to buy!

  96. Nicole says:

    *Options

  97. Nicole says:

One last question are you still selling any of the digital files such as the water bottle label cover?

  98. Jess says:

Hi i love your party! I had a question about the cup game..were the kids able to knock the cups over easily? Or the entire tower of cups? I’m having a hard time replicating this haha. I was curious if you made it more challenging somehow. Thank you again!

  99. Amber says:

Wow, this is amazing!! Loved all the ideas. You did an amazing job, really amazing.

    Love Amber

  100. April says:

    Hi there

Hi Melissa! This is an amazing party!! I actually did something similar to this a few years ago following a lot of your decor! I cant remember the dimensions for cutting the thwomps though. Did you just eyeball where to cut out the spikes? Also, the balloon supplier I purchased the mocha brown hearts from no longer carries them. Do you think I could just purchase white ones and paint or spray paint them??

    Thanks in advance!

What did you do to give the clouds a 3D look off the wall? Thank you!
