“Nico and I have known each other for quite a while through mutual friends. We would occasionally say hi to each other at social gatherings, but that was about it. Then in August 2015, Nico broke his ankle playing soccer and he was a patient at the hospital I was working at. I realized who he was when I saw his dreadlocks as he was struggling to walk to the counter with his crutches. We had the opportunity to catch up and chat a little, before I had to leave and get back to work. Knowing that he had to go for surgery and would not be able to walk for three months, I told him to call me if he ever needed anything as we both lived in Waterdown. Then Nico proceeded to ask if he could have my phone number. And that is where the endless laughs and conversation began.”
