Last weekend I had the pleasure of capturing Ruben and Kaitlynn’s special day. You may recognize them from their engagement blog post just a couple of weeks ago … after meeting with them to discuss the details for the wedding I was SO excited … and the big day did not disappoint!
We started the day at Ruben’s parents’ house where the guys were getting ready.
When we arrived the guys were playing pool, so I thought I’d do something fun with the wedding date …
After a short visit with the guys, we went over to Kaitlynn’s parents’ house where the girls were getting ready. I saw this gift in Kaitlynn’s old room and thought the card was too cute (Kaitlynn’s maiden name is Rigg).
Every girl needs a pair of fancy Coach shoes!!
Kaitlynn your dress fit you like a dream … simply stunning!!
Most of my couples this year are choosing to do first looks … which makes me SO happy!! I just can’t get enough of them … keep ’em coming!! All of these special moments would have been passed by had they waited to see each other until the ceremony. I know it’s not for everyone … but you can’t dispute these intimate and romantic images …
After the first look we called the bridal party over for some formal (and really fun) shots. I absolutely loved this group of people!! Kept me on my toes and kept me laughing all day long …
Kaitlynn and Ruben requested individual “personality” shots of each of their bridal party members. This was such a hoot!! (Yikes, do people even say hoot anymore?) Nevertheless, I think I might do it with every wedding party going forward …
How awesome would these look in an album spread!
During some down time they busted out an awesome iPhone app called “Heads Up”. From what I understand it’s kinda like the game Headbandz, except the words come up on your phone … the best part is though, the camera on the phone takes video of all of your friends trying to get you to guess the word and you can play it back later. Watching the video play backs is almost more fun than playing the actual game. : )
After the bridal party photos we made our way to Whistle Bear Golf Club in Cambridge. I’ve probably said this before, but I have to admit that this might just be the best venue I’ve shot at to date … not just for the gorgeous grounds and lavish club building, but the staff at this venue is by FAR the best I have ever worked with. Numerous times my second shooter and I looked at each other in disbelief at how above and beyond the service was. I would recommend this place to anyone, anytime for anything!
All of the breathtaking florals were done by Sue Gallo Designs. I have worked with Sue on a couple of projects and she is simply phenomenal. Go check her out!!
Ruben and Kaitlynn both wrote their own vows and they were some of the sweetest words I’ve ever heard!
Immediately following the ceremony we grabbed all of the guests for a quick group photo, then we were off to do some family formals and my favourite, the bride and groom formals.
Kaitlynn and Ruben’s wedding concierge (at Whistle Bear) led us around on the golf carts to all of the best photo locations, complete with a cooler of icy cold beverages. It was SO hot outside, and this little hydration break was just what everyone needed. Thanks Whistle Bear, for thinking of everything!!
As we were finishing up with the photos the sun started setting and peeking through the trees … I love me some golden light!
I didn’t even realized this elevator was there until the bride grabbed me to take a shot of them inside … YES, OF COURSE I will get an awesome elevator shot for you … EEEK … I love it!!
Kaitlynn is an ER doctor so it only seemed fitting that the kissing game would require guests to successfully remove an organ from the Operation game. Such a fun idea!!
There was a whole lot of entertainment going on once Kaitlynn and Ruben’s friends hit the dance floor. My camera could hardly keep up with all of the shenanigans.
And as if the day wasn’t awesome enough, Ruben and Kaitlynn ended it with a sparkler send-off at midnight! So romantic!!
Ruben and Kaitlynn,
You are two of the sweetest people I have ever met and I’m so happy that you’ve found each other! I wish you all the happiness in the world as you start your lives together! Have a WONDERFUL honeymoon!!
xoxo,
Melissa
